Following an IPR trial, Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP preserved a majority of the challenged claims before the PTAB on behalf of its client Smart Mobile in an IPR challenge brought by Samsung and Apple. Claims 1-21 and 23-30 of Smart Mobile’s U.S. patent 8,842,653 were challenged by Samsung and Apple. After a full trial, the Board upheld the patentability of claims 1-13 and 27-30. L&W’s win here follows a noninstitution and another trial win in two other IPR proceedings on behalf of Smart Mobile.
