The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office found all claims of U.S. Patent No. 9,215,613 patentable in an ex parte reexamination requested by an anonymous challenger, and announced it will issue a certificate confirming its patentability. The ’613 patent was one of two Headwater Research LLC patents that a federal jury in July 2025 found to be infringed by Verizon.  The patent was successfully defended in the reexamination by Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP, with a team that included Nathan Lowenstein, Kenneth Weatherwax, Parham Hendifar, and Michael Cosley.
