Patent Litigation Firm Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP Announces New Name and Strategic Direction
LOS ANGELES, CA – Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP (L&W LLP), a Los Angeles patent litigation law firm, is changing its name from Goldberg, Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP to its original name of Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP, and intensifying its focus on its primary practice areas of patent infringement litigation and post-grant patent office litigation.
“Patent litigation, and our nationally recognized practice in America Invents Act post-grant proceedings, have been far and away our most productive and successful areas,” said founding partner Kenneth Weatherwax. “We have built a strong foundation in these areas in the last three years, in addition to our non-litigation intellectual property counseling practice, and by focusing on these strengths we believe we can continue to build upon our success so far.”
L&W LLP will keep in place the entirety of its patent post-grant practice group, which is co-led by Mr. Weatherwax and fellow founding partner Nathan Lowenstein. L&W LLP has one of the premier post-grant groups in the country, having handled more than 50 inter partes reviews and covered business method patent reviews, with a particularly strong track record of success in these important new proceedings.
L&W LLP will also retain the appellate team that obtained a grant of certiorari and argued a significant patent licensing case before the United States Supreme Court, Kimble v. Marvel Entertainment, in March 2015.
“Ken and I are very pleased about the firm’s new direction,” said co-founding partner Nathan Lowenstein. “We share a common vision and philosophy for the firm. We are happy with our progress thus far and believe we are well on our way to our goal of being one of the best patent boutique law firms in the United States. You would be hard-pressed to find another law firm handling a significant U.S. Supreme Court patent case, 50 patent office litigation cases, and far more in just its first three years.”
In addition to its patent practice groups, L&W LLP continues to grow its criminal defense and compliance practices, including anti-money-laundering defense and investigations, featuring former Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Rosenberg, as well as its growing qui tam, business litigation, and outside general counsel work.
Mr. Lowenstein and Mr. Weatherwax are co-managing partners, and L&W also includes fellow Irell & Manella veterans Roman Melnik (lecturer at USC Gould School of Law and lead Supreme Court counsel in Kimble v. Marvel Entertainment), Mark Paluch, and Eric Hanson; Mr. Rosenberg; Daniel Lowenstein, a professor at UCLA School of Law; and associates Micha Adler, Ph.D.; Allison Barrows; Parham Hendifar, P.E.; Patrick Maloney; and Roya Rahmanpour.
L&W LLP expects to return to the Century City neighborhood, the location of its original office and Los Angeles’ premier law firm address, when the firm moves from West Los Angeles to its new offices at the end of May.
Coincident with these changes is the departure of partner Perry Goldberg. Mr. Lowenstein and Mr. Weatherwax wish him the best in his future endeavors.
