Lowenstein & Weatherwax Recognized As #1 Law Firm In Five Year History Of Patent Office Inter Partes Reviews

September 12, 2018

Los Angeles, CA – September 12, 2018 – Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP, a leading boutique patent litigation firm, was recognized by Patexia, the largest global community of intellectual property professionals, as achieving the highest success rate out of over 1,100 law firms analyzed in the five-year history of Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

As Patexia states in its IPR Intelligence Report for September 2018, out of the over 1,100 law firms that have participated in a significant number of IPR cases since they began in 2013:

“In the last 5 years:  Lowenstein & Weatherwax ranked first as the best law firm for IPR with a performance of 81.5%.”

Lowenstein & Weatherwax’s success is particularly notable because it is was also ranked by Patexia as the 23rd most active law firm in IPRs representing patent owners amongst the 1,100 firms studied.

Because Lowenstein & Weatherwax has only seven lawyers in its IPR group, and defends patents in IPRs brought by the likes of Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Intel, Samsung, Viacom and AT&T, and who are represented by many of the best known law firms in the IP space, Lowenstein & Weatherwax’s success has been termed a “David vs. Goliath” performance.

“We’re very proud of the results we’ve been able to achieve for our clients,” said founding partner Nathan Lowenstein, “and our ethos has always been to be one of the best firms in the country in the IPR space.”  Co-founder Kenneth Weatherwax added: “We never expected this much success so quickly, and we are very grateful to our attorneys for their tremendous efforts that has yielded such exceptional results.”

Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP is a growing intellectual property boutique located in Century City, California. In its first six years, L&W has been lead counsel in over 100 IPRs/CBMs before the Patent Trial and Appeals Board, including in over 30 pending IPR matters, has litigated three U.S. Supreme Court patent matters including securing a contested grant of a writ of certiorari, and has litigated numerous patent litigations in federal District Courts.
